I recently saw a meme/quote being circulated that exemplifies an emotional confirmation or framing bias. I wont call out that person out of respect but I want to share the meme and my response in hopes that we can more easily recognise the falicy.

“My friend, Ive been pondering this meme since you posted it and I must respectfully disagree with it. The quote is too easy in its simplicity and denies a few simple truths of human existence. 1. Poverty is the natural state of being and was so until the invention of personal ownership of property and the accumulation of wealth in America via capitalism. 2. That accumulation of wealth enabled even the poorest Americans a way of life better off than the rest of the world and offered the idea that hard work and diligence could increase the possibility of success. 3. American capitalism lifted the rest of western civilization out of poverty and spread the idea of such freedom around the world which raised the poverty and prosperity level for anyone willing to embrace it.

This quote, whoever wrote it, may protest a perversion of these principles but being so simplistic about it gives the opposite impression.

The fact that capitalist principles work is the reason why socialists in our society are able to stir class warfare exemplified in this meme. It irks me when the truth is twisted in such a way.

I’m sure you meant no harm but I felt compelled to defend our founding principles

It it not the rich who cannot be satiated, my friend. It is the ones who pervert our system for their own lust for power.

Some power hungry maggots are rich but not all rich people are power hungry maggots.

And btw, I’ve caught myself posting such twisted biases, so Im not judging.

That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence built. ~ Abraham Lincoln

If anyone needs to lose your lunch, go read David Frum’s delusional article on the Jan 6 hearings at The Atlantic. It’s a prime example of how the leftists stay insulated from middle America and reality in general.

Frum is right about one thing. YOU are the most important witness.

You and I know these things whether you admit it or not. – Trump won. The 2020 election was stolen. All the TDS, posturing and theater in the world will never change that.

The biggest question is, will WE allow them to get away with it again?
