Yuma Marines celebrate Independence Day in Afghanistan

7/5/2011  By Pfc. Sean Dennison  , 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Fwd)

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan  — US Marines with Marine Attack Squadron 513, deployed from Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Airz., celebrated Independence Day at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, July 4Events at the Afghanistan airfield included an oath reaffirmation ceremony headed by Gen. David Petraeus, U.S. Forces Afghanistan and NATO International Security Assistance Force commander, while the Marine attack squadron held its own barbeque at the squadron’s hangar.

“America can never thank you enough,” said Petraeus. “I think it’s important to note that unlike the soldiers of my generation, each of you joined knowing there was a possibility you’d be facing hostile combat activity.”

“Being in Afghanistan on the birthday of our nation is one of the most rewarding moments of my life,” said Sgt. James Vickrey, Marine Attack Squadron 513’s career planner. “While it is not easy to be away from my loved ones on this day, I know that in some small part that what I am doing on this is making this world a better place to live.”

Connect with 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward) throughout the deployment. Stay up to date with the latest 2nd MAW (Fwd.) news, photos and videos at http://www.facebook.com/2ndmawfwd.

The Army Team is in the lead. We need to work harder if we are going to catch up and pass them!

Please consider a donation to Project Valour IT Marine Team to ease the burden of those wounded in service to our country.

Thank You.

Blog note: I’m attempting to change the comment feature to one that will not require a page refresh when you post it. Wish me luck…

UPDATE: I’m trying out Disqus and of course it’s taking fo-eh-vah to sync the comments. AND I just noticed the style themes they offer are limited to those with light backgrounds *argh* so unless I can get into some code to fix the visibility of the text inside the form, Disqus will go buh-bye. We’ll see.

It is once again time to dig deep and honor those who have given more than their share to defend our great nation. The Soldiers’ Angels Project Valour IT fundraiser is now on from July 1st until July 14th.

Wollf, who blogs over at Howling at the Moon was kind enough to send me a reminder and an invite to join the Marine Team.

Semper Fi!

Now, as if you need some more motivating to click on the banner to the right, here ya go.

In 2005, I was wounded.  For some months, I was unable to use my hands.  They were simply too badly damaged from the blast, and the surgeries to make them usable again left me unable to do anything for myself.

Then came Soldier’s Angels, who gave me a laptop, and paired it with special software that allowed me to control the computer, using only my voice!  Imagine, being able to do anything you can do with a mouse and keyboard, using just your voice.  For me, it allowed me to do one thing, that I could do before I was wounded.

That one thing–when everything: feeding, cleaning, scratching, everything had to be done for me–that one thing I could do for myself allowed me to connect to my soldiers, friends, and family. That one thing… that one thing began a long road to recovery.  It gave me hope; that I could learn to do other things like I did before.

That one thing is only possible if people like you care enough to help.  We have provided thousands of these systems since 2005, but the needs for these systems is still increasing.  I visit military medical facilities and meet with wounded troops, and know that there are ways to help them… and right now, I have to tell them to wait because we need funding.

Should our wounded have to wait for something that can help them heal, take their mind off their pain, or bring them a little sense of self?

Please help us raise $100,000 between July 1-14; to keep us in the business of providing for our wounded.  It seems like a lot of money, but every single dollar  helps.  Every dollar donated goes to the troops.  None of the VALOUR-IT donation goes to administrative or other costs.  You’d be hard pressed to find any charity that does that, but it was a stipulation I made when we set it up.  That number seems huge, insurmountable.  But you know how you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time.  Give what you can, please.  I know times are tough.  Times were pretty tough for me, too, and are pretty tough for young men and women learning how to use prosthesis, getting skin grafts, having wounds washed out.

Donate if you can, please share the message with others.  Get your friends to give what they can.  Write about it on Facebook and twitter.  Call in to a radio or TV show.  Spread the word. Spread the love. Spread the hope.

Thank you.

VIA Houston Radio KTRH and radio talk show host Michael Berry who has a post up with phone numbers to call and express your opinions.

They fought for their country, now they’re fighting against it.

A trio of Houston area veterans groups is suing Veterans Affairs and the director of the local National Cemetery claiming they’re trying to censor religious freedom during funerals and other ceremonies.

This is an outrage and should not be allowed to continue. The families of our fallen heroes should be allowed any form of prayer or religious services they wish without the government’s pre-approval of prayers submitted beforehand.

God bless our veterans and soldiers.

Sorry so quiet. Been busy at work during the day and at the studio at night working on a new project. This one is shaping up to be pretty intensive so blogging will likely be lite for the foreseeable future.

It Took The Obama Admin. 4 Years to Forge A BC, and They Still Screw It Up

So, Obama released his Certificate of Live Birth (long form) this morning after 4 plus years and countless requests for the document. The only problem with it is the Adobe pdf format document posted on the White House Blog web site, when opened in Adobe Illustrator shows multiple layers of information and text which should not be the case with a photographed image. A true photograph would contain only one layer. Another question is, why leave the layers there? Surely Illustrator has a way to flatten or merge the layers into one layer. Did they just forget? The main point is,the photo has clearly been modified and or manipulated. Why?

Here is a video just linked on Twitter that shows irrefutable proof of the layers.
UPDATE: The original video has been removed for some reason. I’ve found others that show the same thing, but, to be doubly sure, I’m going to check it myself before I put up another video. – Check back in a bit.

UPDATE II: I personally downloaded a trial copy of Adobe Illustrator, and the PDF file of the BC directly from the White House blog. This video is absolutely accurate. Not sure why the other video was removed.

Personally, I think this is a Clintonesque distraction, even if it is true that he’s ineligible for the presidency. Disproving his eligibility would take a Senate willing to take on the question and that just ain’t going to happen until the next election.

So why keep the issue front and center?

It’s a ploy to keep you focused on anything other than the destruction he is wreaking on the country and the turmoil he is causing in the world with his Keynesian economics and his dangerously cavalier handling of foreign policy, which is to say, his coddling of our enemies and snubbing of our allies.

Think of the BC as Monica Lewenski. (Sorry) The Clinton trial wasn’t about oral sex. It was about lying under oath about the accusations of Paula Jones, but Clinton was able to distract the public enough to snake his way through that maze. Obama is employing the same tactic that Clinton used much more effectively. What should be much more worrisome is, if he’s willing to carry on this charade, what is he attempting to distract us from?

I’ve said it many times but it bears repeating. Barack Hussein Obama is a charlatan. The BC controversy is but further proof.

Ignore the facts at your own peril, and America’s, my friends.

My conscience is clear.

UPDATE:

WND has more on the controversial document.

Obama: “We do not have time for this kind of silliness. We have more important things to do. I have more important things to do. “ Gateway Pundit: Cocky Obama Mocks America, Tells Oprah: “I Remember Being Born in Hawaii” (Video)

Fortitude.

…as in testicular fortitude.

As used by R.S. McCain to accurately describe Rep. Paul Ryan, who announced the first real plan to cut government’s wasteful spending.

From the TEA Party Patriots website:

Continuing Revolution RallyCR Rally
When: Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 12pm

Where
Robert A. Taft Memorial, Washington, DC (North West of the Capitol Building, Directly West of Upper Senate Park). Click on map to go to Google for directions.

Why
Patriots across the nation spoke loudly last November.  You voted for change.  You voted for real fiscal leadership.

Unfortunately Washington doesn’t get it.  President Obama and the Reid Senate continue to ignore the fiscal crisis while the House dithers around the edges of spending cuts.  We need bold leadership and we need it now.  IT’S TIME TO ACT.  Join us on the National Mall this week to turn up the heat on entrenched Washington politicians.

Tell them:

  • You want the full $100 billion in cuts they promised
  • You want $105 billion for Obamacare implementation cut now.
  • You expect the courage to lead us out of the financial hole Washington has dug.

Join the Tea Party Patriots Continuing Revolution Rally on the National Mall this Thursday.

While American families have been forced to pair back their budgets President Obama doubles down on costly programs like Obamacare and high speed trains we can’t afford.  This week Harry Reid will participate in a rally to protect entitlements.  That’s not leadership.  That’s just plain irresponsible governing.

We can’t kick this can down the road again.  It’s time to make a stand and put the screws to the Washington establishment.  Join the Continuing Revolution this week.

Confirmed Speakers:
Tea Party Patriots Co-Founder Jenny Beth Martin,Rep Mike Pence (IN), Rep. Michele Bachmann (MN), Rep. Steve King (IA), Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX), Rep. Raul Labrador (ID), Rep. Joe Walsh (IL), Rep. Ted Poe (TX), Rep. Allen West (FL) Rep. Jim Jordan (OH), Rep. The tough choices have to be made. No matter what your political stripe. I don’t know if air strikes are the way to go here, but I’m not the one sitting in the oval orifice.

So O-bomb-a, rather than leading, follows the French and the UN. Tell me again how any of this makes America or O-bomb-a look better in the eyes of the world?

Wait. That was a rhetorical question.

R.S. McCain is also questioning the selective outrage and the outragers.

Meanwhile, The Rhetorican:

What’s missing? The ubiquitous sense of outrage in every nook and cranny of Leftie-dom that we couldn’t stop hearing back in 2003, before troops even started packing for Iraq.

True: The outrage is not “ubiquitous,” but what are lefties like Michael Moore going to do? They got nowhere to go. They backed the most left-wing nominee in the Democratic Party’s history — yes, Obama is further left than McGovern or Dukakis — and actually managed to get him elected. And the result is . . . ??

We’re still in Iraq and Afghanistan. Guantanamo is still in business. Bradley Manning is stripped naked in solitary confinement. Now, another military adventure. You’d think that people who’d been so blatantly screwed over, bamboozled, sold out, ripped off and stabbed in the back would eventually wise up.

But then again: They’re liberals.

Indeed.

Personally, I don’t think O-bomb-a would have called for air strikes on Libya unless it served his political purpose. He may just be bowing to international pressure and hoping to use this for capital later on down the road. He certainly didn’t take any great stand on the issue in the previous weeks, aside from the posturing and speeches with his adminstruation speaking from both sides of the issue thus confusing all parties as to what stance America was going to take.

I believe he wants all unrest in the middle east to continue. It serves as distraction to his radical domestic agenda and if you think he’s going to do anything that helps Israel that he isn’t forced to, then you haven’t been reading the tea leaves properly.

UPDATE:

I swear I hadn’t read Instapundit’s article before I wrote that headline.
