Capitalism

Interesting collaborative invention between Dave Mears (@dave_mears) and yours truly today on Twitter.

I use the term “invention” loosely because it appears we all have a pair of these things. We just may be unaware of it.

Shhh. Don’t tell anyone until we patent our common-sense invention that everyone has in their possession.

Nah. I’m sure it will go completely unnoticed until the next century or so, when some archaeologist finds them, puts them on and proclaims the last hundred years have been a complete drain of socio-economic and political wisdom and that the world leaders must finally renounce their stranglehold on the peoples of the world, admitting that capitalism is indeed the key to prosperity. Then they shoot him, pronounce him a heretic, lock up the glasses in a warehouse with the Arc of the Covenant and go on about their merry, utopian, business.

Yea. That’ll be about right.

And the root of Western thought.

Here’s the latest Afterburner:

Video after the page break:

Conservatives should be wary of nominating just “anyone.” We need to carefully select who will run against Oblahblah else we could end up with another Bush who will lead us in the same progressive direction, just taking the scenic route. Or worse, not nominate a candidate conservative enough to defeat Oblather at all.

Spellchek has a great essay on what it will take to save the country and a few musings on the establishment. Here’s a sample:

Capitalism must have a failure mechanism. It’s the only way it works. Bailouts don’t apply. Government intervention and market manipulation don’t either. You can’t experience the rewards of capitalism and the opportunities it provides without the risk of failure present. That’s the check and balance to keep the free market honest. No bailouts, no stimulus, no artificial interest rate manipulation, no printing money, no picking winners and losers. None of it. In other words, none of the Obama agenda can be tolerated.

He doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to the RINO GOP contenders either. I highly recommend you read the whole thing.

This Independence Day weekend while we are having fun at cookouts and gatherings we would do well to keep in mind the sacrifices the Founders made in order to create the US of A and think about what we should do to save her.

God Bless America.

Yes. For some reason, it seems we need to.

The coming 2012 election should not be framed in ideology of Right versus Left, Republican vs. Democrat or Libertarian/Conservative vs. Liberal.

The main issue of this election is whether we the people of this country choose to enslave our neighbors using the machinery of mob rule democracy or reclaim our lost liberties and return to the original intent of our Constitutional Republic. That is the issue.

Either you are an asset to society or you are a burden on it.

The 2012 election should be framed in light of the government’s unbridled over-expansion. Today, the US government in engaged in an unhinged, un-American mission to encourage sloth and preach entitlement theology, enabled and encouraged by the uninformed citizen and the educated elitist alike while funding the assault on the backs of the very people they prostitute but claim to protect: the everyday American.

This is but one example from The Heritage Foundation 2011 Budget Chart Book

The world the Statists would establish is one of dependency on government as a patriarch who makes even the most mundane decisions for us and therefore, as a child of government, we will have no rights or property except what illusion they would allow.

This election is about American versus un-American.

It’s about Freedom versus Slavery.

I’ve been thinking along these lines for a while. After all, what is governmental redistribution of wealth but slavery? But the possibility that there may be more people in this country who are against America as founded than are for it really hit home when I saw this retweeted from Pat Dollard last week:

@MerlePearl Merle

Scary, but true. RT @PatDollard If Obama wins the next election, then there aren’t enough Americans left for it to be America anymore.

To which I replied:

Too true. Unfortunate as well is, that knowledge could serve to energize either base.

Have too many Americans forgotten what it means to be uniquely American?

It’s a bit terrifying to me that we’ve come this far down the road to Socialism, Communism or Statism. Call it what you will, but the America we thought we knew is teetering on the precipice of a debt cliff caused by overspending on unearned entitlements. If it is not reversed, America simply can not survive. No country can, or ever has when using the economic model being employed.

It’s as if there is some genetic defect that keeps mutating every generation, eating away at our Self Reliance Gene. Everywhere you look, before acting, (pod) people stop and ask themselves what kind of government subsidy can they get for doing A, B or C or what entity they need approval from to do X, Y or Z, or boast to a co-worker about how much Uncle Sam gave him for his clunker or how much they received from some other such government incentive program. Where do you think that money comes from?

It is through slow, methodical, generational training that you feel these things are normal.

Once upon a glorious free country, you needed only the approval of your heart and a fearless ambition to pursue whatever you set in your mind to. As long as no-one else or their property was harmed, then by all means, go ahead. You were free to succeed and free also to fail. Now, that freedom to act at will has been taken from us. We must get a permit to do just about anything. Someone or some entity must approve of your plans before you can break ground on a homestead, start a business or attempt to market your latest invention, all under the guise of government knowing better than you. Slowly, generation by generation, the evil that is an unrestrained government has eaten away at the American foundation of self reliance.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

C. S. Lewis
English essayist & juvenile novelist (1898 – 1963)

Make no mistake folks, this election is about the survival of America as she was founded.

It will be the single most important election in which you ever will cast a vote. America lives or dies in 2012. This election is about defining what it means to be an American. The true definition of an American has been gerrymandered and perverted by the media, in legislation and regulation and in the halls of “higher education.”

“Concentrated power is not rendered harmless by the good intentions of those who create it.”
Milton Friedman

The true definition of an American has been diluted by diversity and diffused by political correctness. Our defining characteristic, what makes us Americans, has in some cases been stolen along with our dignity. We must reclaim our pride in our American heritage and reassert our love of liberty by standing up to the detractors, the apologists, the America haters and the would be en-slavers.

This election is about American self reliance versus forced servitude. It is also about framing the question as such.

The good news is that, according to the Obama administration, the rich will pay for everything. The bad news is that, according to the Obama administration, you’re rich.
P. J. O’Rourke

It is un-American to take from your neighbor so that you may have what he doesn’t.

It is also un-American to take from someone who works so that you don’t have to. Right now there are working class people who toil away at their jobs under threat of losing their livelihood if they show up late, fail a drug test, are insubordinate to their employer or any number of prerequisites for employment while at the same time, the people who benefit from those stolen monies are not required to adhere to any such standards. That is un-American to its core. It is also thievery.

In America today one can’t get a decent job without background checks and drug tests and aptitude tests and any number of requirements for employment. It’s a circus of flaming hoops, but we do it because we love our families, we still have our pride and we need to make money to survive. What pride the takers once had, they exchanged for a welfare check or a stack of food stamps and a cell phone at the behest of a ‘benevolent’ government. Without renouncing their selfish attitude, is there any question to what they will vote for? They will vote for more of your money and they will do so because of generational training.

These people are our brothers and sisters. They are our fellow Americans. They don’t desire our pity, nor would we grant them any. They have simply lost their feeling of self worth and may not even be aware of it. I believe some of them deep down, know or suspect the wrong they are doing, the harm they inflict on their own country, but peer pressure and the entitlement culture beckon them to stay in the fold. Sadly, the ultimate irony is, the problem was created by the very bureaucrats they vote to keep in office, urged to do so by demagogue leaders willing to sell them down the road to maintain their own minor pedestals of power. It is a fact that inequity exists in the American system, truly, it exists in all governments to some degree, but one cannot legislate equality of outcome, only equality of opportunity. That is the promise of America’s Constitution.

That some achieve great success, is proof to all that others can achieve it as well.
Abraham Lincoln

When the politicians and political hypochondriacs scream that some true libertarian/conservative wants to end Social Security or that the TEA Party wants to kill grandma or end some so-called entitlement, they are selling all Americans into slavery, plain and simple.

We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution.
Abraham Lincoln

It’s time for Americans to re-claim what it means to be a true American.

Instead of thinking “What is government going to give me?” (What can I take from my neighbor?), we need to think about what we can do for our neighbors.

Like the Founders before us, we can give them freedom. It’s up to all of us to keep it.

That is what it means to be a true American.

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.

Gerald Ford

Over the Christmas holidays I had to stop mid-conversation for fear of exciting a close family member. He’s a lifelong Democrat and there is no hope for saving him from that ailment. He also has heart trouble and tends to get overly excited if you disagree about things political so, I don’t talk about it much over there. Not that politics isn’t discussed at his house, it is. It’s just a one sided conversation and I usually have bite marks on my tongue before I leave. Such is the life of a robot.

I dropped out of the aforementioned conversation when I heard this from another family member:

I’m against Obama but when I see the Republicans giving tax breaks to the rich I just don’t think I can support them either.

This seems to be the mindset of a lot of people who cling to the Democrat or Independent label, and it’s an illogical mind twister. This is the type convoluted thinking that Statists like Obama want to promote and what we Conservatives/Restorationists should strive to overcome.

Now, let’s examine that sentence. When you say “I’m against Obama” are you against everything Obama does? Since you’re not here to answer that, let’s say for the sake of brevity and hopefulness that you are.

So that brings us to the other half of the sentence, “Republicans giving tax breaks to the rich”. This has class envy written all over it. It also tells me you’ve been buying into at least some of the Obamedia rhetoric.

First off, the term “giving” is misused here. It says that it’s the government’s money to give. It is not. It also implies that you accept the flawed premise that the rich don’t pay their fair share of taxes.  What is most disturbing to me is the lack of understanding of the God given right to personal property. When you shift ownership of property from the individual to the government, it soon devolves into tyranny.

John Adams said:

The moment the idea is admitted into society that property is not as sacred as the laws of God, and that there is not a force of law and public justice to protect it, anarchy and tyranny commence.

We have been on that road for a while now. It is time to stop.

Assuming everything the federal government does is *cough* worthwhile: military, infrastructure, postal service, social programs, and so-on, let’s focus on who pays Federal Income Tax and how much, as a percentage of the total. (You can find the dollar amounts by clicking the links.)

Who pays taxes?

According to Scott A. Hodge, President of the Tax Foundation, a nonpartisan tax research group based in Washington, D.C., there were nearly 142 million Americans filing tax returns in 2009, roughly half the population.

Who doesn’t pay taxes?

There were 42.5 million, or 32.4% of filers in 2004 that didn’t pay taxes, which was up from an average of 22% for the previous 5 decades.

Contrast that with 2008, under a Republican President and a Democrat controlled congress:

Two Records Set in 2008: Most Nonpayers and Highest-Earning Nonpayers
Nonpaying status used to be a sure sign of poverty or near-poverty, but Congress and the President have changed the tax laws to pull much of the middle class into the growing pool of nonpayers. The income level at which a typical family of four will owe no income taxes has risen rapidly, now topping $51,000.

As a result, recently released IRS data for the 2008 tax year show that a record 51.6 million filers had no income tax obligation.[1] That means more than 36 percent of all Americans who filed a tax return for 2008 were nonpayers, raising serious doubts about the ability of the income tax system to continue funding the federal government’s ballooning expenditures.

Who pays the most?

The top 1% of taxpayers has the largest burden. In 2008, those filers carried 38% of the total tax income and that percentage is consistent with past results. One problem as I see it, and as noted in the quote above, is the shifting demographics.

Who pays the least?

The bottom 50% of taxpayers pays the least or 2.7% of the total income tax accumulated, which is down from a 1999 figure of 4%. That’s half of the filers paying little or next to nothing. I’d say that this one statistic is enough to warrant a flat tax, that is, if I wasn’t against the Federal Income Tax altogether, but if we’re going to have one. Make it a flat consumption tax.

Who gets a subsidy?

What? A Subsidy!?

Yes. An interesting reminder came out of my reading for this post. I had forgotten that under President Bush (Progressive, but not as bad as Obama by a long shot), the IRS was given new responsibilities: encouraging poverty.

In a nutshell, single mothers under a certain income threshold get a subsidy for each child. We are paying poor folks to have babies!

Our benevolent benefactors might as well open up an ‘Uncle Sammie’s Home for Wayward Wimmin’ on a corner in every major metropolitan city for cryin’ out loud!

Government funded charity distributed through the welfare system hasn’t been replaced; it’s been expanded and enhanced! We now offer subsidies to people to breed more poverty. Yea! Keep in mind, this doesn’t include food stamps, social programs etc., which are funded from the Social Security system and are also expanded due to the greater need now that there are more poor babies being born (see how that works?), we are talking about the IRS being used as a redistributive tool.

Again, from Scott A. Hodge and the Tax Foundation:

Of the 42.5 million tax returns that pay no income taxes, 52.9 percent [‘bot - 22.5m] received some form of a refundable credit – either the EITC or the child tax credit. In 2004, Uncle Sam paid out about $33 billion in “refundable” checks to the families and single individuals who qualified for the Earned Income Credit and another $9 billion to families who were eligible for the child credit.

Broadly speaking, the 42.5 million zero-tax filers are: low-income, young, female-headed households, part-time workers, and beneficiaries of the $1,000 per-child tax credit or the Earned Income Credit.

And the situation isn’t improving:

In 2008, 25 million tax filers received $51.6 billion in EITC benefits. Of this amount, $50.5 billion was refundable in excess of their income tax liability. Also in 2008, some 25.3 million filers received $30.7 billion in child tax credit benefits, with more than 18 million of these filers getting $20.5 billion in refundable checks. Many families are eligible for both the EITC and the child credit. These are not refunds of overpaid tax; they are payments to people who have already gotten back everything that was withheld from their paychecks during the year.

What’s the solution?

Less government. Duh! Reign in the social spending. We can no longer afford (and never could afford), to offer government charity using the IRS or any social program to re-distribute our money/property. It is killing our nation and promoting a mindset of entitlements that is bankrupting and destroying our society. We are squashing people’s will to achieve and succeed by taking from those who will work and giving to those who will not. It is our duty, out of compassion for them and our working countrymen to cease these destructive social programs by systematically phasing them out.

How?

Continue the commitments we have made thus far, but put a dead end date on them. We need to elect like minded Conservative/Restorationist politicians who understand these things and will fight to get these destructive policies reformed and repealed.

I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I traveled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

~ Benjamin Franklin

November was just the beginning. We have to fight ever harder to retake our country from the hands of the Statists. If we do not, well, that alternative is the worst imaginable for the individual, for America and for the world.

Addendum: I understand this is only one part of a larger, multifaceted problem of high taxes and excessive government spending on all fronts. I only bring it up to refute what the media and the Statists want to program you with through sheer repetition.

Some say, and I agree, that the spending comes before the taxes as a method to justify more taxation.  It’s the spending, stupid! Yes.

Therefore, a real, measurable and verifiable shift in thinking and action by our lawmakers needs to occur to stop the downward slide or our country. The only way to accomplish this is through education and activism. A majority of the voters need to make that same shift in their thinking with respect to private property. Our personal property and our earnings should be sacrosanct, untouchable by the Federal monster unless a last resort. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Some, like my family member have given up, thrown up their hands and said, “There’s nothing we can do. We can’t change Washington, so why bother?”

To him and them I say, look at what you, your children and your grandchildren lose if you don’t! Yours and their freedom, or what’s left of it, that’s what.

Will you sell them into slavery by ignorance and inaction?

You already know my answer.

It’s well beyond time to answer for yourself and your family.

Happy New Year, Comrades!

UPDATE: The Robo-Shoppe is back open.

Ecwid came through like troopers and fixed the issue.

Once upon a childhood, it would have never occurred to me that a few ne’er-do-wells from the counter culture of the Sixties and Seventies might come of age and into positions of power. Nor did it cross my then incubatory mind that those protesters become-leaders could, in good conscience, exercise ever more control over the people they claimed to have been protesting for. I see now they weren’t “for” anything, always “against” and now that they hold the reins of power, the new boss is sadly, worse than the old boss. What’s so puzzling is perhaps the tactic. They are still protesting. Only now it is we the people they protest against and from our very own ivory towers no less!

Rapunzel! Rapunzel! You have been corrupted by the power of the tower! Let down your golden locks so that I may grasp your train to yank you down from your smugly throne!

One struggles to describe the depths of hypocrisy and down-right evil these professed elites use against the very people who unwittingly or unwillingly fund their thievery in the name of an unachievable equality: The Equality of Result. It is an easy sale to make vs. the Equality of Opportunity granted in our Constitution because so many people love to hear that they are owed something from you or I for a long ago grievance they themselves never suffered. By using such lies they leech the life’s blood of industry, squelch the motivation to succeed, and rob the people of  self reliance.

Yes, here we are again, at a point in time which through over taxation and a long train of abuses, people in our government attempt to dis-inspire our minds, disintegrate our communities, disenfranchise our unions, misappropriate our monies, and dissect our humanity as a specimen in a lab experiment or TSA line. Our lives have become just another paper statistic. Their failings another reason touted as to why we need to be led by those who know more. Our dreams are merely stepping stones for their rise to power, and our achievements are quickly seized upon to be made theirs. We after all, knew nothing before their arrival and so can do nothing of merit without their benevolent hand.

I find it simultaneously interesting and disconcerting, at the same time. (heh)

Interesting to observe the chess play, watching and listening as sophistry passes for enlightenment, I’ve seen enlightenment and you have to look no further than the Constitution and the associated writings of a few truly wise men that lived just over a couple hundred years ago. So sad that the supposed scholars use their knowledge of the thing to destroy it rather than repair what needs fixing, which, in my opinion would be a thorough de-lousing.

Disconcerting that while they claim to be for the common man, they invariably show themselves to be liars and demagogs, favoring only the oligarchy and aristocracy that an out of control government exhibits instead of putting their faith in the tried and proven abilities and hard working character of the American people, or any truly free people for that matter.

Beware those who promise happiness as a right in the guise of hope. Happiness can never be guaranteed.

Beware those who decline to honor your sacrifice but who also demand it.

Beware those who profess fairness while denying respect. From them you will receive neither.

Reflecting on this situation, and drinking a few beers, has inspired me to take a couple of icons from that Aquarian Age and create a couple of new designs intended to poke an irony stick in the eye of those former beatniks who bought the communist/socialist/corporatist lie and walked this country and the world ever closer to Armageddon. Notice that I’m not pointing out a particular party. I’m pointing at the Progressive Movement in particular. Both parties are rife with those liberty devouring termites.

At any rate, here are the new designs for the Robo-Shirt line. By offering these for sale I am willingly committing an act of American Capitalism and I thumb my nose in the face of an anti-business government.

I also realize my timing in regards to the Christmas shopping season isn’t as, um, timely as it should be to get these printed and offered for the season. Which is to say, I hope to have them ready for Christmas but I can’t say for sure. Hey, the muse just hit me, one can’t time such a thing.

I’m in the process of selecting the manufacturer, so in the mean time, feel free to comment on and offer suggestions as to what you would like in the way of size and type. I’m thinking of offering some tees tailored to the ladies this time also. As before, the shirt will be black. I simply don’t have the funds to offer other colors at this time. Besides, these need a black shirt.

As to meaning of the designs themselves, if some further, individual explanation is required, here you go:

The “Peace thru strength” is self explanatory, or should be. It is not meant to tout the fact that our ancestors used the nuke, but to lament the fact that they felt forced to. I would have done the same, considering what I know of the circumstances, then I would have been forced to live with the consequences, as we all still do.

The “Have a nice day” is meant as a warning to those who would buy what a charlatan wishes to sell, only to find out too late the road leads to damnation. That, and I like the juxtaposition. I found it humorous and at the same time, alarming.

Hope you like them or at least find them thought provoking. ~’bot

The new poll is up and running. I’m a bit late posting but better late than never right?

This week I’ve nominated Francisco Canseco (TX-23) who is running against one of the 11 Texans who voted for Obamacare, Ciro Rodriguez.

.

.

It appears that Rep. Rodriguez thinks you should listen to him when he lies to you, you little insolent woman!

I don’t believe any taxpayer should be treated in such a way. Even if they don’t believe a word you say.

Let’s support someone who has the right message of Constitutionally limited government.

Francisco Canseco:

Our federal government has become a power and money grabbing behemoth which places itself above our individual liberties and freedom.

America’s true strength comes from our rugged individualism, entrepreneurial spirit, faith in God, and family unity.

You can friend Francisco on Facebook too!

I’ve cast my vote. Now it’s your turn!

Mr. Canseco:

.

The new TBF poll is up in the sidebar. I would encourage everyone to research and vote for their favorite candidate. I’ve already cast my vote for Stephen Broden who, as I pointed out in the previous post is running against Eddie Bernice Johnson in TX 30. Stephen Broden is running on a platform of strong Constitutional principles and understands where Obama and the Progressives/ Liberals in Congress would like to take the country.

Right Klik has posted a list of all of the candidates with corresponding links and info for your enjoyment and edification. Please choose your favorites and make donations to these worthy Conservatives.

Here is a portion of a campaign speech from Pastor Broden on our duty to the Republic as citizens.

I must say, I really like this guy.

Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson falls apart in Anderson Cooper Interview
Steven Broden on the issues.

The TBF poll in a nutshell: This is a poll designed to promote rising conservative stars. At the end of the week, the winner will be promoted by a network of over 80 conservative blogs and will receive a flurry of contributions from patriots across the country.
*To ensure that your vote is counted, vote before you view results.

Right Klik is back from some Capitalist efforts and has once again done some fine legwork putting together the Conservative Candidate lineup for your information and edification. I’ve posted the new poll on the sidebar as well.

Right Klik also posted a telling compilation of video moments from the last few months which tells the story of why it is so important for everyone to get educated and involved in the Conservative movement.

We must oust the Democrat and RINO Republican aristocrats who are trampling our Constitution and have been doing so for the last hundred years or more. It’s not going to be easy, but it is necessary if we are to remain a free America. Voting for true Conservatives is the only way to achieve this goal within the framework of our system of government. To remain on the path we’ve been on is a road to serfdom.

Please enjoy the music while your constitution and country are destroyed from within. Thank you.

My buddy The CL over at the Classic Liberal has a great post documenting the plight of some American farmers defending themselves against government raids. Another friend sent me an email that referenced one of the very same sites CL does. What a coincidence eh?
That site is the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund.

Funny thing is, the farm subsidies the government has been handing out over the years has caused another problem of helping to put smaller farms out of business while paying money to people who aren’t even farmers. Here we go again with another problem caused by big government. I don’t have to wonder what their answer will be this time. More government, I’m sure.

Befrore you jump on me for using JCM’s viodeo, I’m aware that Mr. Mellencamp has a few problems of his own in the mid-west as far as government subsidies go. I just like the song.

Subsidies are just like any other government program, it starts off sold with the best of intentions, only to become the enemy of those it was meant to help.
