In perhaps the most important op-ed published in my lifetime, Thomas Sowell perfectly describes Barack Obama and the slow erosion of our rights that we in the blogoshpere have been crowing about for years.

The America that has flourished for more than two centuries is being quietly but steadily dismantled by the Obama administration, during the process of dealing with particular issues.

I don’t think that can be emphasized enough.

He goes on to say:

If laws passed by the elected representatives of the people can be simply over-ruled unilaterally by whoever is in the White House, then we are no longer a free people, choosing what laws we want to live under.

When a president can ignore the plain language of duly passed laws, and substitute his own executive orders, then we no longer have “a government of laws, and not of men” but a president ruling by decree, like the dictator in some banana republic.

I’ll not waste your time or sully his words by trying to add to them here. Professor Sowell’s article deserves to be read in it’s entirety.

Barack Obama And Ruling By Presidential Decree

I love and respect Sowell. However this is awfully partisan and short sighted. Tom doesn’t objectively explain how BOTH parties benefit from what Obama has done for the last 3 1/2 years and it’s a logical fallacy to assume Romney won’t exercise those powers Obama gathered for similar ends. Who else is out there who will wrest control from the two headed beast that lords over us?

Look at the House passing S.679 and its implications in giving whoever wins the election a box full of chocolates filled with rich government jobs to pass out to their campaign donors. The GOP was fully complicit in that incremental increase of executive power. To steal a phrase from Obama’s “You didn’t build that” campaign rhetorical faux pas – You’ll be paying for that!

We need to focus locally. For it is still a federal system, and Tom failed to identify that checks and balances aren’t only built between the three branches of the national government, but between the state capitols and the beltway bandits as well. Hopefully we’ll start seeing more attempts at nullification in the future.

Keep your Republic of Texas secure, my friend!

I agree, Frank and expounded on that very thing this morning at my new place. http://www.texasconservativenews.com/2012/08/23/obama-seizes-congress-cedes-power-band-plays-on/768

Romney’s strategy in the pimarry is to stay calm and collected on stage, and wait out the many other candidates who are splitting the vote in the pimarry. If we get Romney as our candidate it will be because we are spread very thinly over many other people. This is the difficulty of many candidates. There need to be some consolidations of loyalties before the primaries start. We need candidates whowork together to envision the not-Romney candidate. Last presidential election that is what McCain did with other small candidates getting them to concede and throw their weight with him. The Ron Paul people didn’t go along with it, but his strategic win in the Florida pimarry, and several candidates consolidating with him, prevented Romney from getting the nomination. He was more of a RINO than I wanted, but his campaign strategy won him the nomination. If we can play it smart with a CONSERVATIVE candidate, we could do the same thing.

Although, I’m not sure how partisan he is. He may be just trying to slay the dragon that we have in front of us at the moment. I think everyone on the conservative side knows we’re going to have to keep Romney on a leash, if possible.
